Earlier today, co-founder of the Electronic Intifada website Ali Abunimah took to Twitter to celebrate the first Israeli civilian death inflicted by rocket and mortar fire from the Gaza Strip with this clever tweet.
You see, Abunimah thinks he’s very cleverly playing the old “turnabout is fair play” game, attacking a straw man who apparently believes that every civilian killed in Gaza is actually a Hamas operative who thus deserves to die.
Maybe there’s someone out there who actually believes this, but it’s not anyone I know and it’s not in anything I’ve read over the course of the past week. So, to me, Abunimah just comes across as someone who’s trying to be really clever about the death of a man who was bringing food to soldiers, and whose first draft might well have been, “WE GOT ONE!”
But I’m sure that’s not what someone who co-founded the Electronic Intifada intended …
