If there’s no compelling reason to own a particular weapon, then we can safely ban it without causing any problems.
If someone can explain to me why they have a reasonable need for weapons that fire multiple bullets in a second or why they have a reasonable need for extended clips or magazines, or why they need dozens of weapons that are capable of the above, well, I’m all ears.
Oh, and it’s not compelling to say that we’re going to need these weapons to protect us from the tyranny of our democratically-elected government. I dismiss this out of hand. It’s amazing and sad that we’ve allowed people who believe that the government is going to crush them to somehow drive the bus on our gun control policy.
So, with that in mind, my argument is that, in the absence of a compelling reason for these sorts of weapons and weapons caches, I think we’re in the clear with regard to some form of fairly serious gun control legislation.
