When I got my first message the other day from Mark Traina, who was forced to resign from his job as a school psychologist in Louisiana because he went on a racist tirade back in May, I toyed with the idea that it might just be someone else pretending to be him. That would be a lot of work, obviously, for not much pay-off, but it actually made more sense to me as a joke than the idea that the actual Mark Traina was out there doubling down on his racism.
But then I woke up to all of these messages from Traina on Twitter … and on my blog’s Facebook page. And I noticed that Traina’s Facebook page is public so I looked around for a minute: There are lots of pictures of him, relaxing at home or hanging out with family and friends … intermingled with lots of links to racist websites or his own racist comments on articles that he’s shared from news websites.
So, that’s really him. And he looks like a pretty normal guy. And he used to be a school psychologist. And all of that is both really shocking and really sad.
