This is a fascinating seven minutes from The Posner Show on Bloggingheads.
In it, Sarah Posner and Emily Hauser discuss the results of the newest American Jewish Committee poll, which confirms — once again — that Jews are overwhelmingly liberal and that Republican efforts to court Jews doesn’t work.
But far more interesting, I think, is the information about how American Jews prioritize the relationship between the U.S. and Israel — and, specifically, the finding that they mostly don’t.
Which, of course, brings me back to not-very-compelling arguments about how “the Jews,” through the so-called Israel Lobby, supposedly force the hand of American policy-makers on matters relating to Israel. I’m much more inclined to think that there’s something else underlying America’s historical support for Israel — like, for example, a ton of non-Jewish Americans unequivocally support Israel — than I am to agree that a powerful 4.5% gets the results that it does.
