Thanks at least in part to the Monkey Cage blog, this little piece of comedic gold is feverishly making its way around the interwebs … at least via political scientists on Twitter.

So … I watched it, I chuckled about it, and then — since this version is really about American politics, rather than political science more generally — I wondered what a version that focused on political theory would look like.

Clearly, you’d need to remove all that business about math: we don’t do any of that nonsense. But you could certainly say a lot more about the difficulty of and the need for publishing in obscure journals that no one reads. And, of course, the bit about trying to find a teaching job is very relevant; in fact, it might be nice to see a reference to the Political Theory Rumor Mill job blog. That’s a fantastic place to spend some time if your already fragile ego needs a good beating.

Most importantly, though, would a political theory version necessarily be even sadder than this American politics version?
