Jay Bilas sums up my evening perfectly.
I’ve always hated the BCS system for its blatant money-grubbing and failure to actually tell us anything about the best teams in college football. That said, I think the Michigan/Virginia Tech match-up in the Sugar Bowl is really something special. Admittedly, I say this as a Michigan State alum. But it’s objectively nonsensical.
I challenge anyone to provide a reason why Michigan — a team that lost to Michigan State, didn’t win its division, and has only one win against a Top 25 team — should go to a BCS bowl game while Michigan State — a team that beat Michigan, has multiple wins against Top 25 teams, won its division, and played an incredibly close Big Ten championship game against a team it had already beaten once — is selected for the Outback Bowl.
The only possible reason is television ratings. And the ESPN article says exactly that. Not football, but ratings. I wouldn’t watch if Allstate paid me.

The BCS is a fraud.
